15 Oct A Touch of Halloween
It only seemed right that this be my first entry. So I get a little bit excited over those few times a year when you can go that little extra in terms of decoration. Christmas time is one of them, it’s probably when our house is at it’s wildest when it comes to my imagination. The other times include Easter and of course Halloween but these times I like to apply touches to our home in more of a subtle way, sometimes less really is more…
So I like to add lots of very discreet things to the home during Halloween and I like to put them up a good couple weeks before the day itself because if you are going to decorate then why would you spend money to decorate the house for just one day?
I don’t spend a lot at all on Halloween decorations. Home Bargains has all you need and they are so affordable too!
Our boy’s spend days searching out the random spiders that I have strategically placed around the house, and the fake cobwebs that I’ve dotted about, and they are fake, promise! They love it and it’s become a family game to find as many spooky objects as possible. Here are a few bits I have lying around our home come this time of year…
I must start with my favourite… My beautiful vase that my mum bought me a few years ago. I usually put a candle in it and yeah, it looks good but new house new style so this year I put a plant in it and I have to say, I love it! It’s simple yet stylish. Whimsical (with it’s crazy hair) and wacky! It can also be turned around (to hide the face) and used as an every day piece until next year too. So it spends the rest of the year in our guest bedroom. I know that I didn’t buy this particular vase but if an ornament can be used all year round then it’s definitely worth a few extra pennies.
And then there’s a few smaller things dotted about the place….
Spiders are very easy to add subtle touches to a room without it being too OTT so as well as the glitter spiders, if you visit my house you’ll spot some black plastic spiders hanging about too…
And then finally I have made one wall my central focus point which consists of a few Halloweeny wall hangings, a battery powered pumpkin candle and some fake cobwebs to finish it off!
Ok so it definitely won’t be for everybody and I totally get that but if you have young children and like me you like to add a bit of fun to your home (and life) then I hope you’ve liked what I have done.
I would love to see what you do to your home at this time of year. We don’t (like i’m sure many of you) get trick or treater’s but that doesn’t mean you cant decorate the place!
Want the look? You can get all of these bits in Home Bargains right now! I bought most of these a couple years ago but I popped in last week to buy the spiders and everything (Barr the vase) was still there!
